In many fairy stories someone is granted three wishes and I have always given great thought to this: What would you wish for? Would you wish for world peace, happiness in the home? We should always be wishing for something, something to hope for, always motivated by love.
There was the story of the man who was granted three wishes and immediately wished for a sausage, he ran home to tell his wife and she said "Fancy wasting a wish on a sausage, I wish it was stuck on your nose": They had to use the third wish to get the sausage off.
This should teach us that wishes should be treated with great respect and to be careful what you wish for.
In Sleeping Beauty the three fairy Godmothers, Fauna, Flora and Merry Weather have one wish each to give their little god-daughter. One grants her beauty and one the gift of song. The third one has to grant her a wish to break the spell made by the bad fairy and that is True Love's Kiss which will break the spell.
This lovely fairy story teaches us that true love really does conquer all !
Tomorrow a very dear little baby is going to be christened. These are the wishes I am making for her,
just like in the fairy tale. May she have beauty that comes from within, may her voice be soothing and kind, and may she find true Love.
Hey mum, what a nice post! I'd like to quote W.B Yeats's poem, "He wishes for the cloths of Heaven" because well, it seems appropriate! Can you remember, they mentioned it in a film we saw together - I think it was Equilibrium but I'm not 100% sure!
