Those dreaming spires

In Oxford even if you are not a brain box doing clever things at the university you can still feel stimulated and insprired by your surroundings. The minute you enter the city crossing over Magdalen bridge on a Spring morning you can get a feeling of peace and order . On an Autumn afternoon you can walk around and get a glimpse of book- lined studies and sort of feel part of the knowledge.
In Oxford they refer to the town and gown, the students and the town' s inhabitants. A ride on the sightseeing bus helps you take in a lot of information about the city. The colleges, the hospitals, the stunning new Business school, the prison that is now a 5 star hotel . A walk through beautiful Christchurch meadows and a snack on the banks of the River Thames and thinking of all the people who have studied in the colleges and all the well- loved stories that have somehow originated there. Alice- in -Wonderland, Lord of the Rings, The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe.
It is also a great place for shopping and has pubs and cafes in hidden places, the covered market, down alleyways, in the book shops.
Every time you visit can discover something new.Today we saw an imaginative busker dressed as the mad March hare, daffodils in Trinity college and gifts in the covered market, a pub getting ready for Summer with a display of Pims, and a students cafe with delicious cakes and a Builders breakfast.
