This mountain village with its bright illuminations, would have looked very different in 1956 when they were snowed in for three months. They would have had the light of candles and the glow of the fire to give them cheer. They had a wealth of mountain songs and stories, passed down through the generations, still greatly loved today. It is nice to think they were close-knit communities, supporting each other in need.
Stuck here now, in the twenty-first century, there is a great sense of camaraderie and solidarity among the tourists. Everyone is getting to know each other, exchanging addresses and swapping information about the situation. The hotels say they were forewarned and have ample provisions. They even have their own generators. Tomorrow I 'll get someone to tell me a mountain story.
