We're off to see the Wizard

One of the pleasures of Winter afternoons is finding a well-loved film shown on television. This afternoon I watched the 'Wizard of Oz' starring Judy Garland as Dorothy. It was a beautiful clear sunny afternoon as only an Italian Winter can present. Snow topped mountains and a golden glow and then joy of joys the sight of a star twinkling on the horizon in the pinks and oranges of the sunset.
Back to the Wizard of Oz. We all know and love the story and the songs and soon I was totally immersed in the magical wonder of the film. It wasn't even spoiled by the adverts that broke into the opening bars of 'Follow the Yellow Brick Road.' You all know the story don't you?.
The Lion is looking for courage,
The Scarecrow is looking for a brain
The Tin man wants a heart
Dorothy wants to go home.
On their journey to find those things they discover that they had them all along. There were two phrases from the film that I  have always liked and know off by heart.
I watched it in Italian so forgive me if this is not correct, 'It doesn't matter who you love, it's who loves you.'
'If you can't be happy in your own back yard then you won't be happy anywhere.'
As the tears stream down my face watching the film and the heart-wrenching ending when Dorothy is home again, I though about those words of wisdom and not for the first time wondered if they're completely true. You might think I'm taking too seriously for a Sunday afternoon film.
Anyway my mum always used to say 'It's not if they like you, it's if you like them', which is kind of the opposite isn't it?
The second also can be questioned. we all know people who have had unhappy childhoods and found relief and some sort of happiness by moving away. Here I feel The Good Witch means that you have to be happy inside yourself wherever you are. Not happy clappy happy, just strong giving happy.

On that note off we go

We're off to see the wizard
The wonderful Wizard of Oz
We hear he is a whizz of a whizz
If ever a whizz there was
If ever a whizz of a whizz there was
The Wizard of Oz is one because
Because, because, because
Because, because, because
Of all the wonderful things he does.
