Nice places to sit and stare

It's spring, the weather is beautiful, the blossom is out and the days are longer. There's time to watch the sun go down, watch the petals from the blossom waft gracefully down to the ground when caressed by a passing breeze.
I've already used the poem by William Henry Davies (1871 - 1940)  in another post so here are the first few lines to get you in the mood.

Leisure

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass .....

Isn't it wonderful how you can often come across a bench, somewhere to sit awhile and admire the changing seasons? Benches are always made for at least two people, to sit close together. I've never seen a bench for one person. two people sitting on a bench enjoying the view. It must be something that everyone likes doing because there are a lot of benches all over the place.
Often benches bear an inscription, dedicated to someone who liked to sit there, showing appreciation of the bench. Often the bench will have been donated by the family members of the loved ones. it seems though that there can be bough benches, we wanted to put one in memory of my dad but were told there already was a bench dedicated to someone else, so we put a small tree in a pot instead.

So sit together on a bench, hold hands, admire the view, enjoy the spring air.
William Henry Davies knew the importance of doing this and expresses it simply yet beautifully in his poem so everyone that reads it can understand, just like the bench.
have a lovely Monday everyone and look out for a bench.

A bench by a stream for weary walkers

A bench for some relaxation after a hard morning in the vegetable patch

A bench in a shady spot

A bench near a lake, ideal for a picnic

  1. Thanks! This post post is very inspiring and makes u see benches and appreciate them from a different day perspective...I didn't used to like the idea of a bench when I played football I have to see...I preferred being on the pitch ahahah but that's a different story!

  2. A lovely, gentle post, Angela! There's something very appealing about an empty bench in front of a beautiful view!
