These one- line pieces of advice were a constant refrain throughout my childhood. Now some parents might not agrre but I think children do all they can to win their parents approval and try to follow their advice.
I' m now a grandparent but still try and follow and pass on advice even though Oscar Wilde wrote a warning in his play!
I always pass on good advice. It's the only thing worth doing with it.
