Saint George

Yesterday was St. George's day. When we were at Primary school we were taught that he was very brave and courageous and slayed a dragon. I always feel a bit sorry for him because some people say he never existed . If Scotland win their yes vote all the blue on the Union flag will disappear and St David and StGeorge will be on their own, just red and white.

It was a pleasant surprise to discover that St.George is very dear to the hearts of Eastern Europeans and I have got friends whohave given me charms and pendants with St.George on them from the Ucraine and Russia.

In Venice there is a beautiful, quite breathtaking  building that was a meeting place with a chapel inside for Eastern Europeans, it is dedicated to St.George, it is called La scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavone and well- worth a visit.
